Safest Cities in California List - Temecula Among Top Spots

Published | Posted by Wendy Johnson

Temecula was once again named one of the safest cities in California, according to SafeWise, an online safety resource, which analyzed the state’s communities to find the 50 safest cities. With a total of 482 municipalities in the state, Temecula came in at number 15 on the list, jumping nearly two dozen spots from the last time SafeWise released their data.

To compile this report, SafeWise analysts reviewed the most recent 2017 FBI crime statistics and census population data. The evaluation is based on the number of reported violent crimes in each city per 1,000 people. If there was a tie, they also factored in the number of property crimes including burglary, and car theft. Cities that fell below identified population thresholds or failed to submit a complete FBI crime report were excluded from the ranking system.

According to the SafeWise analysis, there are 115,220 residents living in Temecula, but only 1.02 violent crimes per 1,000 people, and 22.69 property crimes per 1,000 people. The last time SafeWise released their list, Temecula was 21 spots lower.

Neighboring Murrieta landed at number 5 on the list, while Menifee was 31, Wildomar was 43 and Lake Elsinore was 105.
